Online Registration Fee

Course Description:
This course provides an introduction into SSA as well as low-cost, ready-to-use improvements that enhance the safety of roads and highways. Various data sources to evaluate roadway safety are also discussed. A synthesis of SSA reference materials and videos will be identified and distributed (virtually). The course will present LCSI countermeasures (along with their relationship to SSA) and their associated crash reduction/modification factors (CRF/CMF) as identified on either the CMF Clearinghouse or other relevant publications. Information on using the CMF Clearinghouse and how to evaluate various CMFs are discussed. Countermeasures for specific areas including roadway segments and curves, roadsides, unsignalized intersections and signalized intersections are covered.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this course, participants will be:
- Familiar with the Safe System Approach, philosophy, goals, components and methods
- Able to relate SSA to LCSI programs by examining intended vs unintended consequences of safety countermeasures
- Able to describe/discuss some potential LCSIs for:
- Roadway Segments & Curves
- Roadsides
- Un-signalized Intersections
- Signalized Intersections
