Course Description:

The Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) Part Six provides the basic requirements for Work Zone Traffic Control. As part of this traffic control, the MUTCD suggest the development of a traffic control plan that provides for both the safety of the travelling public, as well, as employees. This course will provide understanding of key elements used to control the travelling public, as well as, their role in the development of a safe and effective work zone. 

Participants will use different roadway scenarios to develop and practice traffic plans, discussing the effects of those plans on both the public and employees.

Everyone from the new employee to the manager of a road or street department will find value in this very interactive program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Renewed familiarity with Part 6 of the MUTCD: Temporary Traffic Control with a focus on some key considerations when developing a traffic control plan 
  • Identification of key elements used to guide the travelling public
  • Understood importance of work zone safety devices
  • Comprehension of elements used to protect employees in the work zone
  • Working knowledge of how a Traffic Control Plan is developed, what it is and how they protect the public, employees and the agency
  • How to create "safe zones" for workers, equipment and the travelling public
  • Safety concerns of the employee and the organization when working within the Right-of-Way
  • Safety enhancements that can be used within the Roadway System

Registration Fee

The registration fee for this workshop is $50 per person for employees of government agencies and $75 per person for non-government agencies. Fee includes any class handouts and lunch. Registration can be paid online, or via invoice upon special request. Please contact cltap@frontrange.edu for questions.

Cancellation Policy

Please be considerate of those on the waiting list, cancel early if necessary. A full refund will be made if you cancel no later than 3 business days prior to the training day; otherwise, you will forfeit the registration fee.

Special Notes

In order to receive credit for this class, attendees must stay until the end when it is dismissed by the instructor and class certificates are awarded.

 

Instructors

Jones, Kristi

Kristi Jones joined the National LTAP community as the Transportation Training Specialist of Colorado’s LTAP program in 2023.

Prior to joining CO LTAP, Kristi worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) where she started as a boots-on-the-ground highway maintenance member and then promoted to Lead Worker and eventually Junior Foreman. Kristi worked for a major Colorado construction equipment supplier and was a CDL-A nationwide OTR truck driver, moving into a local position hauling hay to various farms around the state and country.

Kristi, in her spare time, is a huge supporter of the bully breed, spends time with her two dogs, a Dachshund named Jägermeister and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Karma. She works as the treasurer for the local county historical museum and is also involved in photography and reading about local history.
