Course Description:
The highest cost for all local and state agencies in Colorado is their employees. Between employee pay, cost of benefits, and the equipment that is required for employees to do their job, organizations require preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure that it runs correctly and safely. Similarly, employees need to remember safety protocols while performing daily tasks and the necessary steps required to protect themselves and their coworkers.
Safety is the responsibility and concern of everyone in an organization. This course should be attended by all employees working in the field, as well as supervisors and managers.
This class is a pre-requisite for all Colorado LTAP Heavy Equipment Operations classes (such as Motor Grader and Loader).
Learning Objectives:
This class covers multiple safety areas that employees will encounter through the day. At a minimum, participants will have detailed understanding of:
- Safe working conditions
- Proper use of tools and equipment
- Three points of contact
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Backing Safety
This program will focus on four areas that are the most hazardous for employees:
- Preventing Runovers, Backovers and backing accident remediation options
- Slips, trips and falls around equipment and the equipment
- Hazards of working in traffic control zones, nighttime operations and preventing glare on the work site
- Basic knowledge of Excavation and Trenching Safety, Confined Spaces and Electrical Safety
